Jack Griffin, a disgraced and arrogant former Harvard philosophy professor, reluctantly returns to his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, to teach Advanced Placement Biology at Whitlock High School. However, instead of teaching the curriculum, Jack immediately makes it clear to his bewildered students that he plans to use them for his own selfish gain: to exact revenge on those he believes have wronged him. He forces them to assist him in various elaborate schemes, much to the exasperation of the principal, Durbin. The series follows Jack's hilariously cynical methods, his often absurd interactions with the quirky students and faculty, and his slow, reluctant journey toward finding some semblance of purpose and even a grudging affection for his unconventional life.
