Johnny Kapahala is a talented and passionate Hawaiian surfer who is forced to move with his family from their idyllic home in Hawaii to the snowy, landlocked state of Vermont. Struggling to adapt to his new environment and the drastically different culture, Johnny finds himself an outsider at his new prep school. He initially clashes with the "skaters" who dominate the local snow scene but eventually discovers his own unique way to conquer the mountain: by applying his surfing skills to snowboarding, creating a new, dynamic style. The film follows Johnny's journey of self-discovery, embracing his identity, making new friends, and bridging the gap between his Hawaiian roots and his new life in the snow.
