Bobby Fantana, a cool and rebellious teenager from 1962, dies tragically in a drag racing accident. Instead of ascending to heaven, he finds himself in limbo, deemed a "heavenly kid" who needs to learn a lesson about courage before he can truly move on. He is assigned a celestial mentor, a quirky guardian angel named Rafferty, who sends him back to Earth in 1985. Bobby's mission is to help Lenny Barnes, a shy, awkward, and constantly bullied teenager, stand up for himself and win the affection of the girl he likes.
